Cobi Tower and terracotta green material solutions
Cobi Tower I & II – District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, is a project implemented by BM Windows, who was honored to be selected as the supplier for façade items including Stick curtain walls, semi unitized tower block façade glass walls, aluminum louvers and other decorative cladding items such as terracotta panels and composite panels. Among these materials, terracotta was chosen as a green material, and its innovative use in the field of façade design is favored by architects around the world.
Terracotta is a type of ceramic pottery, shaped from clay and hardened through a special firing process. This materiel was selected to meet the building’s exterior cladding requirements in terms of sound insulation, heat insulation, durability, longevity, non-flammability and more. Terracotta is a versatile and flexible product, and makes a significant contribution to the unique architectural shape and color of the buildings.
Cobi Tower employs a semi-unitized system with almost 50% of the panels being made from terracotta. The Façade alternates between terracotta panels and glass panels, with the terracotta panels being specially bonded to the aluminum frame. By using this solution, the terracotta panels are enhanced to respond to vibrations, displacements of the building and thermal expansion without leading to sudden breakage during use. In this project, BM Windows has developed the optimal construction method for the combination of these two systems, providing an overall façade solution for the project, from aluminum and glass to other covering products.
